During the summer of 2019 I had the opportunity to complete an internship at the Ontario Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU) under the Finance Analysis, and Systems Support Branch (FASSB). While I was there I had the opportunity to create a set of representative illustrations for the FASSB intranet site and marketing materials while staying within the branch image.
The most important step that I needed to take when I started working on these was to research as much as I could about the branch. This is because I was designing for a government organization, so I had to make sure everything remained professional and still provided a modernized look. I made sure to create a colour palette that complemented the branch colours (yellow, light blue, dark blue). For each piece, I went through an iterative sketching process until my designs reached a high level, starting with paper and eventually working in a digital space.
Creating these illustrations was a great way to learn what it means to create designs that follow the same visual language. This project also led me to other illustration opportunities within the branch beyond the intranet and marketing.
